A dryer is an appliance used to remove moisture from clothes and other textiles after washing. It uses heat and tumbling action to dry the items quickly and efficiently. Dryers are commonly found in homes and laundromats.

History

↓↓
Before the invention of modern dryers, people would air-dry their clothes by hanging them on clotheslines, often outdoors. This method worked well in sunny, dry weather but was less effective in colder or wetter climates. In the 18th century, the first heated drying racks were developed, using stoves or fireplaces to provide heat to dry clothes indoors. The first electric clothes dryer was invented in 1892 by George T. Sampson, an American inventor. Sampson's design used a rotating drum and heated air to dry clothes more efficiently. His prototype was quite basic and was a precursor to the modern tumble dryer. In the 1980s and 1990s, there was growing concern about energy consumption, leading to the development of energy-efficient dryers. Newer models featured better insulation, improved air circulation, and more efficient motors, leading to less energy use.
