History
↓↓
The idea of mechanical cleaning devices began in the late 19th century.
In 1901, British engineer Hubert Cecil Booth invented one of the first powered vacuum cleaners. It was a large, horse-drawn machine and had to be operated from outside the building!
In 1908, American inventor James Murray Spangler created a more practical, portable vacuum cleaner. He later sold the idea to William Hoover, whose company became one of the most famous vacuum cleaner brands.
Vacuum cleaners became more common in households during the mid-20th century, especially in the U.S. and Europe. As technology improved, they became smaller, quieter, and more affordable.
In Japan, vacuum cleaners began appearing in homes during the 1950s and 1960s, as household electricity became more widespread. Japanese companies like Panasonic, Toshiba, and Hitachi helped develop compact, efficient models suited for Japanese homes.
