An aquarium is a place where people can see fish and other sea animals. It has large tanks filled with water where animals like fish, sharks, jellyfish, turtles, and sometimes penguins or seals live.
History
↓↓
The idea of keeping fish for observation dates back to ancient times, including civilizations such as Egypt, Rome, and China, where fish were kept in ponds and bowls.
The modern public aquarium began in the 19th century.
The first public aquarium opened in London in 1853, inside the London Zoo.
Soon after, aquariums appeared in cities like Paris, New York, and Berlin.
In Japan, the first modern aquarium was the Ueno Zoo Aquarium, which opened in 1882 in Tokyo. Since then, aquariums have become popular all over Japan, especially because of the country’s close connection to the sea.
Today, aquariums are not only entertainment facilities but also serve important roles in marine education, conservation, and scientific research.
