A pansy is a colorful flowering plant known for its large, rounded petals with unique patterns that often look like a face. Pansies come in many colors and are popular in gardens and flowerbeds for their bright and cheerful appearance.
History
↓↓
The pansy originated in Europe. In the early 19th century, gardeners in England and France crossbred wild violets (Viola tricolor, also called heartsease) with other species of the violet family. Through this cultivation, the modern pansy was created with its wide variety of colors and larger flowers.
Pansies became a favorite ornamental flower in Victorian gardens and quickly spread worldwide. In Japan, pansies were introduced in the Meiji period (1868–1912), along with many other Western plants. Since then, they have become a familiar seasonal flower, symbolizing thoughtfulness and remembrance.
