Description

↓↓
A bicycle is a human-powered vehicle with two wheels, typically one behind the other. It is propelled by pedaling, which turns the chain and rear wheel. Bicycles usually have handlebars for steering and a seat for the rider. They can be used for transport, recreation, sport, or exercise. Modern bicycles come in various types: road bikes, mountain bikes, hybrids, etc. Some have gears to adjust to different terrains or speeds. Bicycles are eco-friendly, quiet, and promote healthy living. They are used worldwide by people of all ages and backgrounds.

History

↓↓
The first bicycle-like invention was the Draisine, created in 1817 by Karl Drais. It had no pedals—riders pushed off the ground with their feet. Pedals were added in the 1860s in France, creating the first true bicycles. The penny-farthing with its large front wheel became popular in the 1870s. The safety bicycle, invented in the 1880s, resembled modern bikes with equal-sized wheels and a chain drive. Mass production in the 20th century made bicycles affordable and widespread. They played key roles in mobility, especially before cars became common. Today, bicycles continue to evolve with electric models and advanced materials.
