JLPT N5
I am Miki
Japanese
わたしはみきです
Watashi wa Miki desu
Lesson & Usage
- This is the most basic self-introduction pattern: "I am [Name]." It's usually said right after "Hajimemashite" (Nice to meet you). Using your name clearly helps people remember you and starts the conversation on a friendly note. Even in business, this simple form is used before moving to more formal titles.
Culture & Etiquette
- Japanese names are traditionally Surname first, then First name. However, when introducing yourself to international friends, many use their first name as "Miki" did here. Note that the particle "wa" (は) is typed as "ha".
