JLPT N5
Asking for Repetition
Japanese
もういちどおねがいします
Mou ichido onegaishimasu
Lesson & Usage
- [English equivalent: "Pardon?" "Could you say that again?" or "One more time, please."] Use this when you didn't catch what someone said. It is far more polite than saying "What?" (Nani?) and shows you are making an effort to listen.
Culture & Etiquette
- Communication in Japan often involves frequent nodding and responding. If you miss a point, asking to repeat it shows sincerity rather than a lack of skill.
