History

↓↓
Snowboarding is a relatively modern sport that developed in the 1960s and 1970s in the United States. It was inspired by surfing and skateboarding, adapted to snowy mountain environments. The first snowboards were homemade, with riders using wooden boards with bindings attached. In 1965, Sherman Poppen invented the “snurfer”, a toy for sliding on snow that is considered the precursor to modern snowboards. In the 1970s and 1980s, pioneers like Jake Burton Carpenter, Tom Sims, and Dimitrije Milovich developed and improved snowboard designs, making them more practical and popular. Snowboarding grew rapidly in popularity during the 1990s, becoming recognized as a serious winter sport. It became an Olympic sport in 1998 at the Nagano Winter Olympics in Japan, which greatly boosted its global profile. Today, snowboarding is practiced worldwide and has various styles, including freestyle, alpine, and boardercross.
